The Position:
The Senior Director, Finance, Canadian Operations is a strategic leadership role responsible overseeing all finance functions across a multi-site mining portfolio, including multiple mine sites, processing mills, and regional support operations. The role provides financial leadership, operational partnership, governance, and commercial oversight and scalable growth across the region.
Reporting to the SVP, Canadian Operations, the Senior Director acts as a key business partner to regional operational leadership and plays a critical role in supporting operational performance, cost optimization, expansion projects, integration activities, and long-term strategic planning. The position leads regional finance teams and works closely with corporate finance, technical services, operational leadership, procurement, IT, HR, and project development groups.
The role is expected to establish standardized processes, strengthen financial controls, improve operational visibility, and build scalable finance infrastructure to support future mine development, acquisitions, and regional expansion initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Regional Financial Leadership
- Provide strategic financial leadership and business partnership to Regional Operations leadership teams.
- Lead all regional finance activities across multiple operating mine sites and milling operations.
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, long-range planning, and financial performance management across the region.
- Drive financial accountability and operational discipline across mining, milling, maintenance, technical services, supply chain, and support functions.
- Ensure timely, accurate, and insightful financial reporting to executive leadership.
- Drive standardization and continuous improvement of financial processes, reporting structures and operational workflows across all sites.
Operational Finance & Performance Management
- Support decision-making through scenario modeling, business analysis, and operational insights.
- Partner with site leadership teams to improve financial performance, optimize cost structures, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide financial oversight and analysis related to production planning, mine plans, and operational efficiency initiatives.
- Support implementations and enhancements involving SAP, OneStream, budgeting tools, reporting systems and operational data integration.
Financial Reporting, Controls & Governance
- Ensure compliance with corporate policies, accounting standards, internal controls, and regulatory requirements (IFRS, SOX, and any other applicable frameworks).
- Strengthen regional financial governance, controls, and risk management practices.
- Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities for regional operations.
- Ensure integrity of financial and operational data across all sites.
- Coordinate internal and external audit requirements for regional operations.
Leadership & Talent Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop regional finance teams across multiple operations.
- Build a high-performance culture focused on accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and operational partnership.
- Support succession planning and capability development across regional finance functions.
- Foster strong cross-functional relationships between finance, operations, corporate teams, and site leadership.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Commerce or related field.
- CPA designation required.
- 15+ years of experience in financial reporting, operational finance, finance systems, master data, in a complex industry (mining, energy, or manufacturing preferred).
- Significant experience in supporting multi-site operations in a complex operational environment.
- Strong understanding of mining operations, milling processes, and capital projects.
- Experience supporting mine development, expansion projects, acquisitions and integration activities is considered a strong asset.
- Experience with ERP and financial systems such as SAP, OneStream and other platforms.
