Purpose

 The Water Treatment Technologist is responsible for supporting the safe and efficient operation of the effluent treatment plants (ETPs) at the Dome and Pamour sites, ensuring compliance with regulatory and company standards. This includes supporting operational activities to achieve production targets for water treatment at both sites. The Technologist plays a key role in optimizing plant performance, focusing on safety, sustainability, and operational excellence. 

Responsibilities
 
Safety & Sustainability Expectations 

  • Follow safety standards and compliance with Ontario OH&S Act and internal safety policies. 
  • Follow and support the implementation of safety procedures, including PPE use, chemical handling protocols, and emergency spill response.  
  • Oversee regular safety audits, including Critical Control Verifications, to 
  • ensure adherence to the highest safety standards. 
  • Participate in safety huddles, address unsafe conditions, and support the implementation of corrective actions following incident investigations. 
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of chemicals. 

Technical 

  • Coordinates the ordering and delivery of reagents. 
  • Coordinates the entering of maintenance work orders. 
  • Ensuring critical spares are available. 
  • Provides daily updates of relevant key performance indicators. 
  • Provides guidance to maintenance personnel for the preparation and execution of planned and unplanned maintenance shutdowns  
  • Provides guidance to operational personnel during daily duties, as well as planned and unplanned shutdowns 
  • Supports improvement programs, procedures, and policies to improve safety, increase efficiency and reduce costs. 
  • Works with the metallurgical group to optimize reagent consumptions. 
  • Replacement for the Water Treatment Specialist during absences. 



Training and Education

  • Post Secondary School Graduation Diploma in Water Treatment Technology 
  • Minimum of 3 years in water treatment operations. 
  • Proven ability to work with operational teams and motivate change. 
  • Experience working within a unionized environment would be an asset. 
  • Valid G driver’s license
