Purpose

Provide day-to-day technical support, maintenance, installation, and upgrade services for operational on-board technology systems on a wide range of heavy equipment, including haul trucks, loaders, excavators, and drills, as well as the associated back-end infrastructure that supports these systems. This is primarily a field role, meaning the successful candidate will be working on-site and in the field, performing hands-on tasks.

Core responsibilities include supporting and configuring technologies such as fleet management systems fatigue monitoring, collision detection, telemetry, and GPS augmentation. The technician will diagnose and repair electro-mechanical issues, troubleshoot low-voltage on-board systems, install and maintain two-way radios and Blast PED systems, and provide Level 1 and 2 incident support across both equipment and supporting infrastructure.

Responsibilities

1. Safety and Regulatory / Policy Compliance

  • Adhere to the company's Occupational Health and Safety policy and procedures.
  • Consistently demonstrate and encourage safe work practices, particularly when working on or around heavy equipment.
  • Support regulatory and corporate compliance initiatives as they pertain to information, infrastructure, and technology assets.
  • Promote and comply with the company's goals and values.

2. Field Technology Support

  • Provide hands-on support, maintenance, installation, and upgrades for on-board technology systems in heavy equipment such as haul trucks, loaders, excavators, drills and a variety of other pieces of equipment
  • Diagnose and repair electro-mechanical issues related to on-board systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair low-voltage electrical systems related to on-board systems.
  • Configure and support onboard technologies, including:
    • Fleet management systems
    • GPS augmentation systems
    • Fatigue monitoring and collision detection
    • Telemetry and wireless data transmission units
    • Blast PED systems
    • Two-way radio and cap lamp systems
  • Perform new installations and ensure proper function and integration with back-end systems.

3. Incident Management

  • Respond to and resolve Level 1 and 2 incidents related to onboard and field network technologies.
  • Track issues, coordinate resolutions, and escalate when necessary to supervisory or vendor support.
  • Execute change and update processes for field technologies and related infrastructure.
  • Monitor and maintain service availability and performance for fleet and communications systems.

4. Request Fulfillment

  • Process and fulfill requests for two-way radio programming and system updates.
  • Configure and activate additional services within onboard and wireless technology platforms.
  • Support the installation and configuration of systems related to drilling, hauling, and loading operations.

5. Asset Management

  • Maintain and manage inventory of onboard technology and operational computing assets.
  • Coordinate with service providers to ensure timely repair, replacement, and preventive maintenance of field-deployed hardware.
  • Ensure proper documentation of installations, updates, and configurations.
  • Follow all required safety procedures when servicing or accessing equipment and electronics in the field.
 

Training and Education

  • Diploma or Degree, preferred in Mechanic, Electrical/Engineering Technologist, or related

Skills and Experience:

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in technical or field support roles related to technology and heavy equipment.
  • Broad knowledge of all technology considerations (performance, scalability, maintainability, deployment, operations, technology infrastructure)
  • Skilled in troubleshooting and repairing on-board technology & low voltage DC systems on heavy equipment by following schematics and wiring diagrams, with a strong understanding of communication concepts and problem-solving to deliver effective, solution-based outcomes
  • Experience providing field-based support, installation, or diagnostics on mobile equipment is highly preferred.
  • Valid “G” driver’s license.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with vendors, service providers, colleagues, clients, and customers at all levels.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Competence in incident tracking and resolution.
  • Prior mining or industrial experience
