Purpose
Reporting to the Mine Controller Supervisor, this position is responsible for the efficient use of the open pit dispatching system (Minestar), including both the fleet management system (GPS) and all supporting software. The role coordinates aspects for best use of the fleet management system, including integration with engineering, operations and maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Ensures the operation of the fleet management system is consistent with the safety, regulatory, and company standards.
- Participates in crew safety and pre-start meetings
- Promotes the IRS and safety programs through monitoring of work activities and interaction with crew members
- Responsible for overseeing use of fleet management software (Minestar), focused on ensuring efficient operations to meet or exceed targets established
- Ensures all necessary inputs are entered into the fleet management system with emphasis on data accuracy
- Assist open pit supervision in tracking actual performance against shift targets, reporting short interval control metrics and suggesting opportunities for improvement
- Works as a liaison with the maintenance department, entering work notifications and accurate tracking of equipment downtime and reasons
- Participates in continuous improvement activities and initiatives for the Open Pit
Training and Education
- Grade 12 Minimum or equivalent, diploma in Mine Technologist/Technician or equivalent experience is preferred
- Minimum 3 years of operating or technical experience in open pit mining
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Proven experience in problem solving, identifying root causes and improvement opportunities
- Time management and prioritization skills while working on multiple tasks
- Strong computer skills, previous work with MineStar is an asset
- Able to collaborate well with other departments and teams
