The Position:
Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Corporate Development, the Manager, Corporate Development will be responsible for regularly evaluating external M&A opportunities, investments, asset portfolio rationalization and internal opportunities within Discovery’s existing portfolio, preparing both technical reviews and financial modeling.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive the development and continuous improvement of the Corporate Development business processes and function;
- Lead the identification, screening, and evaluation of development, investment and acquisition opportunities;
- Build and maintain M&A target tracking watch lists and conduct thorough financial and technical analysis;
- Manage technical due diligence initiatives, including coordinating external technical consultants, engaging internal technical teams, and reporting on corporate technical due diligence initiatives;
- Develop reports and presentations summarizing results of evaluations for senior management and board of directors;
- Maintain corporate financial model and data room; and
- Collaborate and work closely with the Technical Services, Exploration, Finance, Legal and Operations departments to support transaction evaluation and execution.
- University degree in Mining Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Geological Engineering, Finance, or a related field;
- P.Eng or P. Geo designation is an asset;
- 3 - 5 years of experience in mining-related finance roles, corporate development, private equity, investment banking, or equity research;
- Proficient in financial modeling and industry valuation methodologies;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written);
- Proactive and able to work with minimal supervision / direction and meet pre-determined deadlines;
- Strong knowledge of the Canadian and global mining industry; and
- Flexibility to travel as required.
