The Position:

The Vice President, Treasury will be responsible for providing strategic direction and oversight for the global Treasury functions including cash management, liquidity planning, metal and concentrate sales, banking relationships and insurance while ensuring compliance with internal policies and maintaining regulatory and financial stability for the Company.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates capital markets decisions for the organization by providing support and analysis for strategic decisions, including cash flow forecasting, debt and equity financing structures, etc.
  • Executes and oversees the marketing and sale of the Company’s precious metals and concentrates, providing value through the entire sales and revenue chain.
  • Manage systems for effective and efficient cash consolidation and payments of obligations while ensuring bank and funds reconciliation occurs routinely and investigates unreconciled items.
  • Develop strategies and execution plans to minimize the Company’s exposure to foreign currency risk and optimize repatriation strategies to minimize risk.
  • Monitor and action cash flow planning and forecasting to ensure optimal liquidity.
  • Participate in capital market transactions.
  • Maintain positive banking relationships and negotiate terms and fees for various debt and equity instruments.
  • Develop and implement risk management and hedging strategies with regards to foreign exchange, other consumable commodities and/or precious metals positions.
  • Ensure adequate internal controls and segregation of duties over cash disbursement/ transfers/receipts.
  • Analyze financial situations and develop financial strategies that protect the Company and create value.
  • Ensure legal and regulatory compliance for the areas that fall within the role.
  • Prepare covenant compliance materials or other regulatory requirements to satisfy administrative agent notices and other legal documentation.
  • Arrange and execute the underlying securities to support reclamation bonding assurances.
  • Work cross functionally, particularly with the tax and legal teams to optimize structures and funding arrangements.
  • Key participant, with executive management, in company wide annual planning process.
  • Track compliance with treasury policies related to best practices for cost efficiency, fraud controls, and achievement of adequate investment returns while also maintaining compliance to internal control structures.
  • Lead the company’s corporate insurance program, evaluating risk exposure and ensuring adequate and cost-effective coverage.
  • Prepare regular treasury planning & reporting materials for CFO.
  • Complete other projects and responsibilities as assigned.

 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years experience working with a publicly traded mining company with experience in corporate treasury, corporate finance and/or banking required.
  • Professional Finance designation is an asset; CPA or CFA.
  • Strong knowledge of treasury operations, including account structure considerations, fraud protections, account activity & fee analysis, cash management and investments.
  • Strong technical accounting skills as well as, management reporting, business analysis.
  • Experience with loan documentation and bank notices.
  • Outstanding technical, leadership and project management skills with the ability to balance big picture with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (both oral and written).
  • Thorough understanding of IFRS and its implication on treasury and accounting of a global mining operation.
  • Demonstrated skills in spreadsheet modeling, word processing, tax return preparation, and tax research.
  • Strategic thinker and with strong business acumen as evidenced by the ability to play a key role supporting management decision making including contributing to the Company’s direction and growth, driving the activities of the finance organization to reflect a deep understanding of the business’ needs and strategic direction.
  • Ability to work independently and at a fast pace with multi-disciplined teams.
  • Uses rigorous logic and methods to improve processes and effectively solve problems. Probes all sources for answers, sees hidden problems; looks for solutions beyond the obvious; thoroughly analyzes situations; and demonstrates disciplined decision making.
  • Focuses the time and priorities of themselves and others on achieving or surpassing the desired business objectives and exceeds goals with a sense of urgency.

 

Workplace Conditions:

  • Corporate head office, located in downtown Toronto, Ontario with frequent travel
  • Occasional attention to work issues in the evening or on the weekend
