Purpose
The Project Cost Accountant will manage project financials by tracking budgets, expenditures, forecasts, and reporting. This role requires expertise in financial analysis, compliance, and reporting, with the ability to integrate schedule, cost, and reporting systems using Microsoft Project Professional, Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O Project Costing, and Microsoft Power BI. The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, engineers, procurement, and finance teams to ensure alignment between project schedules, costs, and performance outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and control project costs, budgets, and forecasts for multiple concurrent projects.
- Process purchase orders, invoices, and payment approvals in alignment with corporate policies.
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting on project expenditures and variances.
- Support project managers with budget tracking, cash flow forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Reconcile cost data between project controls, scheduling, and financial systems.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and corporate governance policies.
- Develop financial dashboards and cost performance reports using Microsoft Power BI.
- Integrate project cost data with Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O Project Costing and Microsoft Project Professional schedules.
- Assist in audits, internal reviews, and support corrective action plans for cost-related issues.
- Prepare financial summaries and presentations for senior management and stakeholders.
Training and Education
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Experience: Minimum 5+ years of project accounting experience in mining, industrial, or large-scale construction projects.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (F&O) Project Costing.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Project Professional for schedule-to-cost alignment.
- Strong ability with Microsoft Power BI for dashboards, financial reporting, and variance analysis.
- Knowledge of project accounting principles, IFRS standards, and cost reconciliation practices.
- CPA designation (or progress toward completion) considered a strong asset.
- Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
