Purpose

To support and coordinate the reclamation department’s programs and initiatives to adhere to closure requirements at all Discovery Porcupine sites. 

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a good relationship with Discovery Porcupine’s internal departments through open communication and department visibility in the workforce, 
  • Support compliance with filed Closure Plans associated with a historically active mining camp encompassing over 20 active and inactive operations, 
  • Assist with reclamation training for all staff and contractors of the Discovery Porcupine sites, 
  • Conduct various field surveys, inspections, and/or technical investigations of tailings/mine hazards, and workplace/safety inspections throughout Discover Porcupine’s sites, 
  • Support / Conduct drone flights of tailing facilities, projects, mine hazards and other Discovery Porcupine requirements, 
  • Download / Monitor / Troubleshoot geotechnical instrumentation in and around tailings facilities & mine hazards, 
  • Support the troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and calibration of reclamation equipment, 
  • Maintain a good relationship with government agencies, represent the company in government inspections/investigation, site visits and be available for emergency call-outs, 
  • Support the submission of closure plans and amendments, 
  • Support reclamation GIS requirements, 
  • Assist in annual budgets preparation and monthly budgeting and forecasting, 
  • Support contract tendering process for relevant programs and projects, 
  • Support Dam Safety Inspections and Reviews, 
  • Assist in the development and support of site spring melt preparations, 
  • Provide field support to the Reclamation Engineers and other personnel, 
  • Monitor and inspect construction/rehabilitation projects with Project Supervisors to ensure design and specifications are followed, 
  • Support the preparation and/or review of annual monitoring reports as required for Closure Plans to ensure they are submitted in a timely manner, 
  • Preparing field & technical reports, maintaining databases & records, and evaluating project progress, 
  • Communicating with instrument suppliers and other external contacts as needed, 
  • Provide technical support and guidance to mine site where required, 
  • The above duties and responsibilities are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all-inclusive. 


Training and Education

  • Diploma in an Environmental / Civil / Mining Engineering Technology field 
  • 3-5 years in the mining industry or related experience with exposure to tailing dam management, mine hazards, and closure requirements. 
  • Experience working with technology / instrumentation, installs & troubleshooting 
  • Must be able to take a practical approach to closure management. 
  • 3-5 years leading various students, contractors, and consultants 
  • Effective communication and organization skills,  
  • Strong PC skills, experience with various field equipment, 
  • Ability to interact with internal staff and external agencies, 
  • Valid G driver’s license, 
  • Transport Canada Advanced Drone pilot certificate is an asset, 
  • Competency in GIS is an asset, 
  • Familiarity with Sitescan is an asset, 
  • Familiarity with RST instruments and software is an asset, 
  • Understanding of mine hazards, tailings facilities and closure requirements/closure plans is an asset, 
  • Surveying experience is an asset, 
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks, 
  • Ability to read/understand engineering drawings

Compensation and Benefits
Competitive total compensation package including:

  • Annual total compensation of CAD$102,946 to CAD$127,169 (including annual bonus eligibility).
