Purpose
The Mine General Foreman is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of all underground mining activities. To actively promote a healthy and safe work environment ensuring that the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Government Acts and Regulations and company policies and procedures are adhered to. This role provides guidance to shift supervisors and crews, ensures adherence to mine plans by driving production while maintaining the highest standards of safety, ground control, ventilation, and equipment performance.

Responsibilities

Safety

• Lead and enforce a strong underground safety culture with a focus on field level risk assessments
• Ensure compliance with Ontario mine regulations and enforce company safety procedures
• Conduct underground inspections and audits of active workings
• Lead or participate in accident, incident, and near-miss investigations
• Ability to identify hazards and take immediate corrective action

Production

• Coordinate daily underground mining activities to meet production and development targets
• Oversee contractors completing drilling, blasting, mucking, haulage, ground support, and backfilling activities
• Monitor underground conditions including ground control, ventilation, and water management
• Address operational challenges and minimize delays or downtime
• Coordinate with maintenance teams to ensure underground equipment availability and reliability
• Communicate shift performance, issues, and improvement opportunities to mine management
• Support surface operations with supervision when Site Services Coordinator is off

Leadership

• Supervise on-site contractors
• Provide coaching, mentoring and performance feedback
• Proven leadership and decision-making abilities in an underground environment

Training and Education

• Minimum high school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in a mining-related field would be considered an asset
• Minimum of 15 years of underground experience, including supervisory role
• Strong working knowledge of underground mining methods and equipment
• Underground Supervisory Common Core required
• Proficient computer literacy
• Well-developed communication skills (oral, written, presentation)
• Strong leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills
• Work well in a team atmosphere
