Purpose

To provide clarity and focus for the engineering group to achieve and surpass the mine’s safety and production targets and to add value to the operation. Develop high confidence mine plans based on historical performance and improve mine recovery. To grow the people in the engineering group through performance review, training, guidance, and mentoring to reach their maximum potential

Responsibilities
Promoting Safety and Sustainability

  • Align with Fatality Risk Management protocols at all sites
  • Promote innovation and continuous improvement in safety by reviewing existing engineering designs and new designs
  •  Review plans and designs for regulatory compliance and compliance to Company policies, procedures and standards
  • Promote and adhere to Company environmental and sustainability policies

Mine Planning and Mine Design

  • Lead mine engineering team in a safe and efficient manner to achieve departmental and corporate business objectives
  • Support yearly budget and company business planning exercise
  • Optimize grade control and minimize dilution through effective incorporation of geologic data and tasks in mine plan
  • Liaise with Geotech team and incorporate guidance into mine plan
  • Provide guidance to operating departments to maximize production, plan their activities and accurately measure key mining parameters.
  • Manage consultants and contractors on engineering projects
  • Complete conceptual design and scheduling of future mining areas. Consider infrastructure, material handling, water management, ventilation, services, equipment requirements and engineered safety on new installations/equipment.
  • Participate in strategic planning at the departmental level, and provide input to increase value and optimize the use of resources.
  • Identify and champion opportunities to optimize the contractor’s efforts (overbreak, advance rates, ventilation, pumping)
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Strategic Planning
Maintaining, reporting and monitoring of production statistics and performance to ensure the property’s goals and objectives are achieved
Participate in Business Planning exercise at the senior management level, providing guidance on options to increase value and optimize use of resources
Provide support to exploration teams to ensure targets appropriately scheduled and incorporated into the mine plan
Support reserve and resource calculations as required by the corporation

Training and Education

  • A Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering or equivalent engineering degree
  • Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario and in good standing order with PEO, or equivalent in other jurisdictions
  • A minimum 5-7 years of mine operation and engineering experience
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a leadership role
  • Be technically competent and have a good understanding of key business drivers for gold mining
  • Strong Deswik skills
  • Strong understanding of geologic influence on mine plan confidence
  • Experience with UG water management, seismic systems, and paste fill would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of engineering techniques as they apply to ore body evaluation and mine operations.
  • Have strong communication and people skills
  • Be focused, clear and decisive
  • Able to impact and influence in order to gain the alignment of the engineering and operating teams
