Purpose

To organize, coordinate and direct site services including surface loading and surface maintenance activities. The incumbent is expected to apply their expertise to collaborate cross-functionally and across various levels at the site to support safe, reliable and sustainable operations of the mine facility.

Responsibilities
Health Safety and Environment

  • Promote and adhere to Discovery Porcupines environmental and sustainability policies.
  • Ensure Discovery’s safety initiatives are implemented and followed. These include daily huddles, 5 - point safety system, job task observations, critical control verifications, safety meetings, etc.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with internal and external partners and agencies (i.e. JH&SC, Union, MOL, MOE, WSN)
  • Lead by example, provide guidance and motivate people to work safely.
  • Conduct regular workplace inspections, identify risks and hazards and take corrective measures.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures as required.
  • Ensure crews receive training / accreditation in the jobs they are expected to perform

Managing People

  • Supervise surface operations equipment operators and labourers
  • Guide and coach individuals towards reaching personal and company goals. (Career development)
  • Identify opportunities for improvements (training, tools, etc) and implement corrective actions when required.
  • Complete performance reviews as required on all direct reports in a timely and professional manner.
  • Develop action plans and follow up throughout the year.
  • Utilize the progressive discipline process as required to drive accountability

Strategic Planning

  • Coordinate and manage yard including contractors and material movement.
  • Promote and build a positive and co-operative working relationship with all departments keeping safety, production and costs as primary elements to meet the mine plan.
  • Promote safety, PM compliance, equipment availability and cost control.
  • Coordinating small to medium size construction activities projects.
  • Ensure the site’s cemented rockfill plant facility is operationally prepared.
  • Assist with planning and implementation of support projects.

Contract Management

  • Coordinate and manage contracts associated with site services.
  • Leadership Requirements
  • Interact with department heads, superintendents, general forepersons, supervisors and administration services and training responsible for providing direction, assigning work tasks and monitoring progress of each task.


Training and Education

  • Secondary school diploma with a minimum of 5 years of mining/construction/industrial experience or post-secondary education with 2-3 years of technical or field experience.
  • Minimum 3 years supervisory experience 
  • Valid "G" driver's license
  • Supervisory common core
  • Train the Trainer accreditation be an asset
  • Ability to interpret site plans / maps and offer input to maintenance/construction activities.
  • Have strong communication and people skills.
  • Require good troubleshooting and problem solving abilities
  • Project management and knowledge of SAP software is an asset

Compensation and Benefits
Competitive total compensation package including:

  • Company contributions and matching into a Defined Contribution Pension Plan; and
  • Annual total compensation of CAD$123,432 to CAD$152,475 (including annual bonus eligibility).
