Purpose
The Project Engineer is responsible for supporting the planning, design, and execution of capital and development projects at the Borden Mine. This role ensures projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with engineering standards, company procedures, and regulatory requirements.
The Project Engineer serves as the technical lead on assigned projects, providing engineering guidance, coordinating design and field activities, and acting as the primary interface between project teams, operations, maintenance, and contractors. The position is critical in verifying design implementation, ensuring quality, and supporting continuous improvement in project delivery.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the planning, design, and execution of capital projects.
- Ensure all project designs, work plans, and execution methods comply with regulatory, environmental, and site-specific requirements.
- Conduct regular field inspections to monitor project progress, quality, safety, and compliance with engineering standards and company procedures.
- Support project schedules, budgets, and cost tracking through ongoing progress monitoring, variance reporting, and documentation.
- Prepare formal risk assessments to ensure projects are planned and scheduled for safe execution.
- Develop operating procedures and handover documentation to support the transition of completed projects to operations and maintenance teams.
- Prepare progress reports, presentations, and other documentation to support effective project management and decision-making.
- Coordinate with operations, contractors, and technical teams to ensure alignment with project schedules, budgets, and scope.
- Liaise with third-party consultants on engineering studies, technical evaluations, and design work as required.
- Participate in project meetings, toolbox talks, and coordination sessions to facilitate communication and alignment across stakeholders.
- Support commissioning, QA/QC, and handover of completed projects, ensuring work meets design specifications and operational requirements.
- Identify risks, scope changes, or unexpected site conditions and coordinate resolution with project leadership.
- Serve as a technical resource and liaison across cross-functional teams, including Technical Services, Maintenance, Operations, and Site Services.
Training and Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline
- 2-5 years of experience in underground mine design, planning, or capital projects
- Previous experience in capital projects is an asset.
- Familiarity with underground mining methods, development activities, and infrastructure systems
- Basic understanding of project controls (schedule, cost, scope)
- Proficiency in MS Office
- Experience with software such as Deswik, MS Project, or other design/planning software.
Compensation and Benefits
Competitive total compensation package including:

- Annual total compensation of CAD$130,017 to CAD$160,610 (including annual bonus eligibility).
