Purpose

To ensure compliance of all Porcupine properties through monitoring, inspections and sampling for the operations as well as assistance with required government reporting. This position incorporates several different methods including biological assessment, groundwater, surface water, dust, soil, and air monitoring. Visual inspections and monitoring of several operational facilities are also required.

Responsibilities

  • Daily and weekly visual biological assessments including fauna and flora surveys, habitat characterization, tree snags, species at risk surveys, migratory bird surveys, aquatic assessments, fish relocation
  • Daily and weekly visual inspections of operations, recording in-water work, recording construction activities, collection of samples, monitoring water levels and flow rates
  • Support the surface water, groundwater and air monitoring programs (internal and compliance) and ensure they are completed in an organized and timely fashion
  • Maintain real-time cloud-based monitoring data and operability
  • Assist in preparation of monthly, quarterly, annual reports for mine site, government and corporate office
  • Assist in updating all internal and external compliance databases (MonitorPro, SWIM, Environmental Permissions, MEWS, RPRA, etc.)
  • Assist in completion of compliance reports or permit applications for regulatory agencies (RFR, IGF, ECA, PTTW, etc.)
  • Support the development of monitoring and inspection programs and schedules
  • Maintain proper logs of field data, prepare data for database entry and upload
  • Assist in environmental training for all staff and contractors (biodiversity, fauna, flora, initiatives, etc.)
  • Support biodiversity and wildlife management initiatives
  • Maintenance and calibration of environmental laboratory and field equipment


Training and Education

  • Bachelor of Environmental Science or Diploma in Environmental Technology with specialization in Biology, Fish or Wildlife (nature-based courses)
  • 1-2 years in the environmental field (fauna and flora expertise) and mining industry or other related experience with comprehensive exposure to monitoring, inspections and sampling
  • Effective communication and organization skills
  • Ability to interact with internal and external staff
  • Ability to manage a wide variety of projects and timelines to meet tight time restraints
  • Valid G drivers license
  • Pleasure Craft Operator Card
  • Familiarity with SiteScan, MonitorPro, ArcGIS, management systems and/or advanced pilot drone license are considered assets


Working Conditions

  • Participation in emergency and spills on-call schedule is mandatory for this position
  • Sampling programs encompass a large physical area in the vicinity of the operation; there is a significant amount of travel time required. Operating passenger vehicles, all-terrain vehicles, and boats are a requirement for this position.
  • The successful candidate must be comfortable working independently and at times work in remote locations with a partner.
  • This position is a site-based role
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs


Compensation and Benefits
Competitive total compensation package including:

  • Company contributions and matching into a Defined Contribution Pension Plan; and
  • Annual total compensation of CAD$102,946 to CAD$127,169 (including annual bonus eligibility).
