The Position:

The Senior Manager, Operational Accounting, is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of site level and operational accounting activities across the Company’s mining operations. This role acts as the primary link between site accounting teams and Corporate Finance, ensuring the integrity of operational financial information that is coming from the sites. This role requires frequent travel to mine sites to support financial oversight, build relationships, and ensure adherence to company policies and internal controls.

The position plays a critical role in maintaining strong financial governance, supporting operational leaders with reliable data for decision making, and ensuring seamless integration of operational results into the Company’s consolidated financial reporting.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide oversight and support the daily, weekly, and monthly accounting activities at mine sites, including general ledger maintenance, production accounting, cost tracking, and variance analysis;
  • Ensure operational results are accurately recorded and aligned with IFRS and internal accounting policies;
  • Review site level reconciliations, reporting and supporting documentation for completeness and accuracy;
  • Lead the tracking, analysis, and reporting of production costs, cost per tonne, cost per ounce, and other metrics as required;
  • Work closely with mine operations on the basis for cost allocations;
  • Ensure proper accounting treatment of mining-specific activities, including stripping, development, and deferred costs in accordance with applicable accounting standards;
  • Partner with FP&A and operations teams to analyze cost drivers, production performance, and operational efficiency. Review inventory accounting for ore stockpiles, metals in circuit, and finished goods;
  • Ensure accurate tracking and valuation of inventory movements, consumption, and impairments;
  • Support proper accounting for fixed assets, capital projects, and asset retirement obligations in coordination with Corporate Accounting;
  • Implement and maintain strong internal controls across site level accounting processes, aligned with corporate internal control frameworks;
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS, regulatory requirements, and corporate accounting policies;
  • Assist in the coordination of the month-end close process for operational accounting activities, ensuring results are delivered on time and meet quality standards;
  • Prepare and review supporting working papers for consolidation;
  • Support external auditors during interim and year end audits, coordinating information requests related to operations;
  • Collaborate across operational and financial functions to capture the financial drivers of the business, working together as a team to adapt processes that underpin success for the organization in support of the annual budget, life of mine planning, and periodic forecasts;
  • Support implementation and monitoring of cost controls at mine sites, ensuring alignment with company expectations;
  • Support implementation and continuous improvement of financial systems and processes;
  • Identify gaps in systems, processes, and data flow between sites and corporate; propose and implement improvements;
  • Standardize accounting procedures and reporting across all mine sites to ensure consistency and comparability;
  • Act as a key partner to site Controllers, General Managers, Operations Managers, and Plant Managers, providing financial clarity, advisement and support;
  • Train and mentor site accounting and finance staff to strengthen capabilities, accuracy, and compliance;
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for operational accounting issues and collaborate with cross functional departments across the business (Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, Technical Services); and
  • Assist with financial analysis for operational improvement initiatives, mine expansions, and major maintenance programs.

 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or closely related field required;
  • CPA designation or CFA designation;
  • In depth knowledge of IFRS for publicly listed companies;
  • 7+ years of related work experience in the mining sector;
  • Advanced user of Excel (Pivot tables, formulas, graphs, v-lookups, links between spreadsheets);
  • Strong Analytical skills, excellent attention to detail and ability to collaborate cross functionally;
  • Self starter with a willingness to take on increasing responsibilities and the ability to work under pressure; and
  • A team player who supports team balance and can also work independently.
