Purpose

The Project Construction Cost Estimator will develop, validate, and manage construction cost estimates for capital and sustaining capital projects, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and integration with project controls systems. This role requires advanced skills in estimate preparation and validation, coupled with experience in ERP-integrated cost systems, scheduling interfaces, and data visualization tools.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed construction cost estimates for major mining and mineral processing infrastructure projects.
  • Develop and validate quantity take-offs, material costs, labor rates, and equipment costs.
  • Ensure estimates are consistent with project scope, engineering designs, and construction methods.
  • Integrate cost estimates with Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O Project Costing for cost control and tracking.
  • Align cost estimates with Microsoft Project Professional schedules, ensuring cost and time integration.
  • Build cost dashboards, variance reports, and forecasting models using Microsoft Power BI.
  • Support project managers and procurement teams in evaluating bids, contractor claims, and change orders.
  • Monitor market trends, vendor pricing, and escalation indices for cost benchmarking.
  • Provide detailed cost breakdowns and risk-adjusted estimates for feasibility studies and approvals.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, internal policies, and regulatory requirements.

Training and Education
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or related discipline.

Experience: 7+ years of experience in cost engineering, estimating, or project controls within mining, industrial, or heavy construction projects.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (F&O) Project Costing for cost management and reporting.
  • Microsoft Project Professional expertise for schedule integration with cost estimates.
  • Microsoft Power BI skills to create dashboards and analytics for cost performance and trends.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, mining infrastructure, and industrial estimating practices.
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Experience with AACE cost estimate classification and capital project cost control frameworks preferred.
