Purpose

The Mill Projects General Foreperson oversees the planning, coordination, and execution of multiple mill-related construction, maintenance, and infrastructure projects. This role ensures that all assigned projects ranging from mill process improvements and maintenance upgrades to infrastructure initiatives supporting both the mill and surface mining areas are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to required quality standards

Responsibilities
Project Management & Planning

  • Manage several concurrent projects from initiation through completion, including scope definition, scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.
  • Develop detailed work plans, project timelines, and manpower requirements.
  • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, maintenance, and operations teams to ensure readiness and alignment before project execution.
  • Review project drawings, specifications, and work packages to identify requirements, constraints, and potential risks.

Field Leadership & Supervision

  • Provide daily leadership to maintenance crews, construction teams, tradespeople, and contractors working in mill and surface mining areas.
  • Assign and supervise work activities; monitor progress and adjust plans as required to meet project milestones.
  • Ensure workmanship meets company, regulatory, and industry standards.
  • Mentor and coach team members to support skill development, productivity, and adherence to safety practices.

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce strict compliance with all safety, health, and environmental policies and standards.
  • Conduct job hazard analyses (JHAs), field inspections, and safety meetings to maintain hazard awareness and risk mitigation.
  • Ensure all project activities comply with regulatory requirements, permits, and site-specific protocols.

Quality Control & Execution

  • Monitor installation, construction, and maintenance work to ensure quality and accuracy in accordance with engineering specifications.
  • Troubleshoot technical or operational problems encountered during the work.
  • Coordinate testing, commissioning, and turnover of completed work packages to operations or maintenance teams.

Communication & Coordination

  • Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for project stakeholders.
  • Provide clear, consistent communication on project status, progress, issues, and resource needs.
  • Participate in planning meetings and coordinate work with other departments to minimize operational impact.

Materials, Equipment & Contractor Management

  • Oversee ordering and delivery of materials, tools, and equipment needed for project execution.
  • Manage contractor performance, ensuring compliance with contracts, schedules, and site requirements.
  • Verify accuracy of contractor time, equipment usage, and completed work for billing approval.

Administrative & Reporting Duties

  • Maintain daily project logs, progress reports, and documentation of labor, equipment, and materials used.
  • Assist with cost tracking, change order development, and forecasting.
  • Support continuous improvement by identifying inefficiencies and proposing solutions.


Training and Education
 

  • Minimum 5 years in project management experience in mill process, industrial maintenance, construction, or mining operations.
  • Qualified tradesperson with valid trade certification
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects in an industrial or mining environment.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to direct diverse teams.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical, structural, and civil systems typically found in mill and surface mining settings.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and productivity.
